Daytime Emmys 2022: Top Winners Include "General Hospital" and "Kelly Clarkson Show" (FULL LIST)
The 49th Annual Daytime Emmys were held on Friday night, and the main winner was "General Hospital," which took home five trophies, including daytime drama. The Roe v. Wade decision being overturned and the renegade Supreme Court's attack on women's rights threatened to overshadow the occasion. However, the two-hour programme from the Pasadena Convention Center got underway without a hitch and was anchored for the first time by "Entertainment Tonight" anchors Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner.
Daytime Emmy nominations for "General Hospital" also included directing, young talent, supporting actor, and supporting actress. With five victories, "GHhaul "'s became ABC the night's top network. Overall, six syndicated shows took first place. With a total of 15 awards, "GH" is the most successful daytime drama series in history.
The Kelly Clarkson Show, on the other hand, won again for best entertainment talk show, with Clarkson taking home the award for best entertainment talk show host. The show won seven times over two weekends, which is the most of any other programme this year. Furthermore, "Entertainment Tonight" won the award for best entertainment news show once more.
Mishael Morgan, the star of "Young & Restless," made history by being the first Black woman to win the main actress award. Glass ceilings are being broken everywhere, according to Morgan. "We can and shall work together to achieve this thing called equality and togetherness."
This year's awards ceremony included a number of first-time winners, including lead actor John McCook of The Bold and the Beautiful, supporting actor Jeff Kober of General Hospital, supporting actress Kelly Thiebaud of General Hospital, and younger talent Nicholas Chavez of General Hospital.
Despite the program's turbulent year in which executive producer Mike Richards, who had been designated host as Alex Trebek's replacement, was sacked within a week owing to prior statements and contentious conduct, "Jeopardy" extended its trend as the top game show winner.
Executive producer Michael Davies remarked backstage, "The controversy was, as we put it at "Jeopardy!," "the awkward months." "But it demonstrated the strength of our fanbase and how fervently our supporters care about the show, which is just so crucial. The events of the season, including those involving Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, Mattea [Roach], and Ryan [Long], have served to remind us just how amazing the game is. Mayim [Bialik] and Ken, together with our show's stars
We expect to have a hosting announcement very, very soon,' Davies continued. However, in order to move the franchise forward with all of our ideas for "Jeopardy!" — which is more "Jeopardy!," not less, more variations — we will require numerous hosts to reflect the entire audience and the entire nation.
Kelly Clarkson won five honours at the previous 49th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Trophies, which were held on June 18 at the Pasadena Convention Center. "Penguin Town" came in second place with three awards. Netflix was the biggest single network winner outside of syndication (with 10), bringing up nine awards in total, distributed across "Penguin Town," "Cat People," "Headspace: Guide to Meditation," and "You vs. Wild: Out Cold." Next with three each were CBS and PBS.
