2. Quoddy
One of the few companies, including Quoddy, that is preserving the Maine-based footwear market in New England is.
The business is well-known for its hand-sewn moccasins and manufactures shoes with techniques used for generations by the Passamaquoddy aboriginal Americans.
In 1947, Jack and Anne Spiegel started Quoddy Moccasins in Portland. It struggled financially in the 1970s and went through several sales.
After buying the business in 1995, Kevin Shorey and his wife Kirsten brought back the name as Quoddy Footwear LLC in Maine three years later. Kevin's great grandpa, grandfather, and father were all shoemakers, however they were not connected to the original family.

4. Rancourt and Co.
Rancourt & Company, a family-run company, is another shoe manufacturer with a location in Maine. For three generations, the Rancourt family has produced authentic hand-sewn moccasins.
David Rancourt, a Canadian immigrant who settled in Lewiston, Maine to pursue a career in shoemaking, started it in the beginning. In 1967, he established his own plant in Maine, and his eldest son, Michael, joined him there in 1970.
